The short drive between Beccles and Lowestoft was wooded and beautiful.
Lilian was living with her mother's brother, William Knights, and his family the same year the entire Brown family immigrated to Utah. As discussed in a previous post, I don't know why she wasn't living with her own family. Whatever the reason, it would need to be a good one to separate her from her twin sister, Gertie.
William Knights, a carpenter, lived just a block or so from the coast of the North Sea at 9 Bevan Street. Today, there is actually a Bevan Street East and a Bevan Street West. The census record that listed William Knights' address didn't specify "east" or "west", but a very helpful genealogist at the Record Office in Lowestoft pulled out an old map which showed that Bevan Street East would have been the original location. His house no longer stands, but structures across and down the street give us an idea of the type of home in which Lily would have lived.
